Purpose of the role

The Proposal Engineer is responsible for the technical and commercial definition of quotations for packaging machinery and lines. The role translates customer needs into preliminary plant solutions, working with Sales, the Technical Office, and the Operations Director to ensure accurate, competitive, and technically feasible proposals.

Organizational relationships

Reports to: Sales Management
Supervision: Sales Manager

Main responsibilities

• Analyze requests for quotation, technical specifications, customer layouts, and application requirements.
• Develop preliminary machinery or conveying and packaging-line solutions: technical assessment, layout and flow definition, preliminary sizing, and selection of key components.
• Prepare complete technical-commercial quotations, including preliminary bills of materials, assembly, installation and testing times, delivery times, and estimated costs.
• Work with the Technical Office to verify the feasibility of proposed solutions.
• Support the sales area in preparing technical presentations and customer meetings.
• Prepare preliminary diagrams, technical data sheets, and 2D/3D concept drawings.
• Coordinate cost analysis for materials, machining, assembly, automation, installation, and testing.
• Work with Project Management to define project timing and resources.
• Support the sales network during technical visits and pre-sales meetings.
• Keep price lists, cost databases, configurators, and quotation templates up to date.

Customers, suppliers, integrators, and technology partners.

Professional requirements

Education
Degree or technical diploma, preferably in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or industrial automation.

Experience
At least 5 years in technical sales, estimating, preliminary design, or automation roles. Experience in companies manufacturing industrial machinery or complex plants is preferred.

Technical skills

• Knowledge of packaging machinery, handling systems, automation, or integrated lines.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, layouts, and customer specifications.
• Competence in using 2D/3D CAD, including SolidWorks or equivalent systems.
• Familiarity with bills of materials, production processes, and industrial components.
• Basic knowledge of automation, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and drives.
• Good ability to estimate costs and timing.
