Purpose of the role

The PLC Software Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and testing of automation software for PRL Tecnosoft machinery and packaging lines. The role works with the mechanical technical office, electrical department, and project management to ensure reliable, safe, high-performance automation solutions in compliance with project specifications and applicable regulations.

Organizational relationships

Reports to: Automation Manager / Operations Director
Supervision: Automation Manager

Main responsibilities

  • Develop PLC software for automatic machinery and packaging lines.
  • Coordinate the work of external software engineers across projects to create a repeatable design standard.
  • Design and implement operating logic, operating sequences, and machine cycles.
  • Develop operator HMI interfaces with particular attention to user experience.
  • Configure industrial communication networks such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus.
  • Integrate field devices including sensors, actuators, inverters, servo drives, and safety systems.
  • Perform software tests, simulations, and debugging during internal testing.
  • Participate in start-up and commissioning activities at customer sites.
  • Work with mechanical and electrical designers to integrate the machine system.
  • Prepare and update software technical documentation.
  • Support the after-sales department in diagnosing and resolving software issues.
  • Provide both on-site and remote service, for scheduled work and support calls.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of company programming standards.

Professional requirements

Education
Degree, preferably, or technical diploma in automation, electronics, mechatronics, or industrial IT. Significant prior experience in industrial machinery may be considered as an alternative.

Experience
At least 6-7 years in similar industrial automation roles. Experience in packaging, automation, or special machinery is preferred.

Technical skills

  • Excellent knowledge of PLC platforms such as Siemens, Schneider Electric, Rockwell, Omron, or equivalent systems.
  • Programming in IEC 61131-3 languages: Ladder, FBD, and Structured Text.
  • HMI/SCADA development.
  • Knowledge of machine safety systems, including safety PLCs.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of the main industrial communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and the Machinery Directive.
